Did you know that cacao pods do not immediately become ready-to-harvest fruits? The journey begins with small cacao flowers that grow directly on the trunk and branches of the cacao tree. After successful pollination, these tiny flowers slowly develop into cacao pods, which require approximately 5 months to fully mature and become ready for harvest.
During this growing period, farmers must carefully maintain and protect the cacao trees. The developing pods need to be protected from various threats, including harmful insects and pests that can damage the fruit and reduce the quality of the cacao.
Farmers continuously monitor the condition of the trees, maintain the cleanliness of the plantation, manage pests responsibly, and ensure that the cacao pods grow healthy until they reach perfect maturity.
That is why every cacao bean has a story behind it. From a delicate flower, it transforms into a valuable fruit, then goes through fermentation and careful processing before finally becoming the chocolate we enjoy.
